Discrimination against women in the workplace

Things are getting much better for women in the workplace but there’s still a great deal of discrimination that men simply aren’t subjected to. Women are paid less on average than their male counterparts, it’s hard to get hired and get promoted, and there’s a stunning amount of sexual harassment that goes on. It seems like none of this should happen and that women should feel safe at work but in many cases it just doesn’t happen. Nowadays, more than ever, women have legal avenues for righting these wrongs.

If you’re being paid less than your male coworkers or you feel like you’re not being promoted because you’re a woman you can file a lawsuit or threaten to do so. Tread lightly though. If they find out you’re thinking about suing them they might fire you awfully fast. If you’re at a company where you’re not getting paid your worth or you’re being held down then you probably don’t want to work there. If your lawyer can prove that the company has systematically prevented women from advancing and refuses to pay them a fair wage then you’ll be in line for a big settlement. There’s a long history of cases of this nature going for the women.

Sexual harassment is a little tougher. It happens in almost every workplace but sometimes it’s so bad that it makes working there difficult. That’s when you’re best off contacting a lawyer and considering a lawsuit. If you can prove that a hostile workplace has been created due to the sexual harassment and it’s been impossible to do your job then you’ll receive a sizable judgment in your favor. If it even seems like you have a good case there’s a good chance you’ll receive a settlement before you ever have to go to court.
